How a Blind Man Helped Me See

2017-01-17T17:22:25+00:00April 2nd, 2015|1000 Cranes News|

handpuppet_face_shotI’m proud to say that 1000 Cranes has been in business since September 2003!

We proudly filed our articles of organization with the State of North Carolina in 2003.   We will be going on 12 years in business, and it hasn’t been without its challenges, but I’m thankful to say that this little business has continued to be a bridge to delivering key business principles and applying these to the nonprofit community.

That has been our niche for many years.  We are in the business of helping nonprofit organizations become more effective through proven business practices to make them sustainable.

Part of the success of 1000 Cranes relies on the five principles that were created at the start of the business.

We call these the five philosophies which include:

1) Success comes from Faith and Vision

2) Success comes from Planning and Execution

3) Success comes from Embracing Change.

4) Success comes from Collaborative Relationships

5) Success comes from Helping Others.

Of all the philosophies listed here, the one that I believe has been the hardest to achieve for myself and […]

Toastmasters International Convention Highlights

Toastmasters International - with Naomi TakeuchiLast week, I attended the 2013 Toastmasters International Convention in Cincinnati, Ohio, and it was a busy, fun filled week, so much so, that I had little time to sit and craft a thoughtful blog posting.   This is my fourth TI Con, and I must say, it was overwhelming with all that I had to celebrate!

1) Sunday through Tuesday:  I was one of the members of the Teresa Dukes campaign for International Director of Region 11, and through that experience, I was able to meet all the TRIO members (District Governors, Lt. Governors of Education and Training and Lt. Governors of Marketing) from around the world.

I was also able to see the inner workings of how campaigns are run and how important these are to the success of the Toastmasters International organization.    I also built strong bonds with all the members of the account team representing the US, the UK and Canada.   It was exhausting sometimes handling back-to-back 15 minute […]

Your actions represent your country – Stay away from London's Driver #29648!

Greece Naomi Takeuchi 1000 Cranes LLCWorldwide Hospitality.  Joe and I recently returned from a trip to Europe where we primarily went to Germany and Greece with Vienna and London as transit cities in between.  What fascinated me about the trip was the way people treated us wherever we went.

The Germans were very direct, prompt and gracious in all our interactions, and our Greek hosts were especially fond of treating us to wonderful views of the city, coffee in the afternoon (frappe) and late night eating.

One of the striking things that came about on our return trip was how we were treated by two cab drivers in London.   Mind you, we had just finished a five hour layover plus two hour delay in Vienna on our way home, and we were going to a hotel to rest for only a few hours before heading back to the airport.

Let me share with you an excerpt of a complaint I sent regarding “the tale of […]

You Can't Win If You Don't Play

2017-01-17T17:22:34+00:00July 30th, 2013|1000 Cranes News, Book Reviews, Communication Powerhouse|

Naomi Takeuchi "Heart of a Toastmaster" by Sheryl RoushThe last week has been a whirlwind of activity since hearing the news that my story was not only accepted into a book anthology called “Heart of a Toastmaster” but my face will appear on the front cover of the book as well.  It has been an honor to have this new attention brought to light, and I anticipate there will be more excitement on Wednesday, August 21st when I will share the stage with several Toastmasters from around the world during the “Heart of a Toastmaster” book launch and book signing.

Life Lessons.  Several people have asked me how I had managed to get my story accepted and my picture on the cover of the book, and I mention several things.

1) Say “Yes!” – I had mentioned in previous posts about how I have adopted the Tina Fey philosophy of “Say Yes!” […]

Making History at the 2011 National Trademark Expo!

2017-01-17T17:22:44+00:00October 18th, 2011|1. Faith and Vision, 1000 Cranes News|

Last weekend, I had an amazing experience working a tradeshow to showcase the registered trademarks of 1000 Cranes.   We have three trademarks registered with the US Patent and Trademark office.  First there is the “1000 Cranes” name itself, then “1000 Cranes” with its logo, and then “Believe. Plan. Fly.” as a trademarked slogan.  You can see these filings in more detail at www.uspto.gov.

The filings occurred back in 2006 and 2007 in the early stages of the company when I left my corporate job at Cisco Systems to pursue my dream of entrepreneurship full time.  The marks had been in use for awhile since I had worked on starting the business part time beginning in 2002, but now that I had left corporate life full-time, I felt the investment was needed to secure the naming of the company.  As an entrepreneur, I had often wondered whether investing the time and money into trademarks was worthwhile, well five years later, I couldn’t have asked for a better result.   Here I am standing with the official […]

1000 Cranes Announces New Changes and Launches New Website!

2017-01-17T17:22:45+00:00April 18th, 2011|1000 Cranes News|

Many of you have been faithful fans of 1000 Cranes, and we appreciate all the support you’ve given us since our humble beginnings since our formation in 2003. It’s hard to believe that eight years have flown by already, and the last six months have proven to be a watershed moment on multiple levels:

1. We are now acting as a primary content provider to new corporate accounts. We have negotiated speaking engagements at three corporations (Prudential, Kimberly Clark and Home Depot) where 1000 Cranes will act as the primary contractor. In the past, we had played a supporting role in our engagements at Lockheed Martin, Goldman Sachs, and Aramark, but in this case, 1000 Cranes is leading the effort in the content development and delivery of these new corporate programs.

2. We’ve landed our first Federal government client! Based on work 1000 Cranes did with the National Center for Child Traumatic Stress, the Veterans Administration supporting the VISN […]
